Here is the letter he sent to me: (He has to remain anonymous until November 20, 1998.)

Dear Donor,

I am sitting here at my computer staring at a blank screen and wondering what to say to the person that has just saved my life. As surely as if you ran into a burning building to pull me out of the flames, yourself and people like you are truly the unsung heroes of the world. I can't explain to you in words or on paper what your gift has meant to myself and my family. Through out this experience I never lost faith that I would some how pull through and with much help from family and freinds I have, and am doing very well. I entered the hospital on November 13 and received your bone marrow on November 20 at midnight. I was very fortunate during my stay at the hospital and while getting my treatment that everything went so well. I was discharged from the hospital on December 15, which was wonderful as I thought that I would have to spend Christmas recovering in bed, but as it worked out I was home and able to enjoy the best Christmas I can imagine. The one person that made all this come true was you. I can't say enough about my nurses and doctors and the excellent care I received, but all the medical technology in the world means nothing unless one person comes forward to give something of themselves, to another they do not know, or may never meet. Once again my heart felt thanks to you and your family and yes I would like to exchange identities come this November.
